Release Time:2025-11-30

Many Minecraft players want to play with mods but don’t know how to install them. In fact, as long as you follow the correct steps, it’s quite simple. This guide explains in detail how to install Minecraft Forge on Windows.

What Is Minecraft Forge?

Forge is a mod loader that allows you to add various mods to Minecraft, greatly enhancing the game’s playability and fun. Of course, there are many different mod loaders, such as Forge, Fabric, Quilt, and NeoForge. However, Forge has a long history and supports a wide range of mods, making it one of the most popular choices.

Step 1: Download and Install Java

Minecraft was originally developed in Java, so installing Forge also requires a Java environment.
You can download Java here: Download Java

Once downloaded, run the installer and follow the setup instructions.

Step 2: Download Forge

You can download Forge here: Download Forge

On the left side of the website, select the version of Forge you want. Then click Installer. After the site redirects, click the Skip button in the top-right corner to start the download.

Step 3: Install Forge

Open the folder where you downloaded Forge and double-click the .jar file to run it.
Select Install client, and choose the folder where you want to install it.

If you see the error message “There is no Minecraft launcher profile”, you need to log in to your Minecraft client first, then repeat the installation steps above.

Step 4: Forge Installation Complete

After completing the above steps, Forge should now be installed.
Restart your Minecraft launcher, and you’ll see a new Forge version in the configuration list.
If it doesn’t appear, click New Installation and manually select the Forge version.

Step 5: Change the Game Directory (Optional)

In the Forge version settings of Minecraft, you can edit the configuration and change the Game Directory to any folder you want to use for saving your data.

Step 6: Add Mod Files

Open the game directory you configured earlier. Inside, you’ll find a folder named mods.
Simply place your mod .jar files into this folder — they’ll load automatically the next time you start Minecraft with Forge.
